Housing characteristics
As we have seen in the chapters dedicated to the realization of the housings for the O-Rings, the seal organs must present some rules to avoid the ring from coming into contact with edges or superficial imperfections, which can compromise the superficial integrity. The realization of the entry bevels, joints and the accurate superficial finishing contribute to assure an acceptable duration of the capacity of the seal system. The figures in this paragraph illustrate the rules to follow in the realization of the housings to limit the danger of damage in the assembly phase. As you can see, the rules are not related only to the actual housings, but are related to all those parts chat, in the assembly phase of the seal organ, come into contact with the ring.

In the realization of the bevels and the surface joints that come into contact with the O-Ring during the assembly, one must take notice of the initial dimension of the cross section diameter before these undergo the compression that generates the seal effect (figure 5.4).
Actually, due to the elastic effect, the ring automatically returns to its resting position if it is not compressed between two surfaces.
