Group R Compounds

Commercial names: Neoprene (Du Pont), Bayprene (Bayer AG), Butaclor (Distergil), Petro-Tex Neoprene (Petro-Tex Chem. Co.), Denka (Denka Chem. Co.).
This rubber is characterised by its high mechanical resistance and its high resistance to ageing, even in the presence of ozone. The resistance to breakage due to stress, typical of this product obtained from the vulcanisation of the chloroprene, make it suitable for use in dynamic seal applications where the cyclic repetition of stresses worsens the work conditions. As well as this, the chlorine component confers to the elastomer flame resistance and self-extinguishing characteristics. The rubber maintains similar characteristics for a wide spectrum of temperatures. The compound can work for long periods at temperatures of slightly less than 100°C without suffering noticeable ageing effects.
