Group Q Compounds
Q, MQ, MVQ (VMQ), LSR (liquid silicone): silicone rubbers
Commercial names: Silopren (Bayer AG), Silastic (Dow Corning), SE Bensil (General Electric).
Silicone rubbers have the principal characteristic of conserving good values of elasticity even at extreme temperatures, in an interval between –60°C and 210°C, especially in pneumatic applications, where they are affected only slightly by the ageing phenomenon. On the negative side, they present scarce resistance to mechanical stresses and prove to be prone to extrusion in the presence of high pressures. The characteristics of pureness and non-toxicity make them particularly suitable for applications in the biomedical sector.
